The yarding for the cattle fair comprised 5000 head, chiefly P.A. and Hereford young cattle, large consignments coming from Hawke’s Bay. Light rain fell throughout the day. This improvefl the coats of the cattle which were of good quality throughout, especially the female cattle. The market, however, was apparently seared, consequently well over 50 per cent, of the yarding was passed in, prices offered falling up 1o 10/. per head below reserves. The heavy entry- from Hawke's Bay, where dry conditions have affected pastures, was probably responsible for the severely restricted buying. The fat cat lie market was much more cheerful with a good clearance. Ox beef made 25/- a 1001 b.. and cow beef 22/6 to 25/-. Fat sheep sold at late rates, with higher prices for a few specially prime linos. There was an excellent sale for store sheep, hoth ewe and wether hoggets, ewe hoggets again reaching 40/-, while a specially attractive pen of wether hoggets made 27/.1. Fat cattle: Prime dairy breed cows. £5/15/- to £6 10/-: light prime. £4/2/6 to £5/10/-: interior, from £3/5/-; light prime heifers. £4/16/- to £5/10/-; fair condition, £3/15/-: Rod Poll cross cows, £6/15/to £7/15/-; heifers. £6/17/6 to £7/12/6; light prime Hereford cows, £7/5/- to £7 15/-: Jersey steers. £7/10/-; bullocks, £10; shorthorn bullocks, prime, £ll to £l2.

Store sheep: YY'ether hoggets. good quality. 25/- to 27/1 ; other, 18/10 to 24/9; b.f. hoggets. 24/- to 25/-: ewe hoggets. attractive pens. 37/9 to 40/-; others from 23/- to 35/6; ewes and lambs. 16/-. Fat sheep: Prime lambs, 20/- to 24/6; prime ewes, to 30/9; good, to 28/7; light, from 19/7; prime hoggets, to 28/6: light. 25/-: b.f. ewes, 30/7; prime wethers, to 29/-.

Poultry: Hens. 2/1 Io 3/4; cockerels. 2/- to 3/-: ducks, 1/11 to 2/5.

Pigs: YVeaners. 10/- to 17/6; slips, 16/6 to 22/-: stores. 31/- to 35/-; porkers. 24/6 to 47/-; sow with seven suckers, £3/12/-.
