HUTT VALLEY CRICKET

Efforts to Secure Match for Colts Team COACHING YOUNG PLAYERS When the possibilities of a representative match for a colts team came under discussion at the weekly meeting ot the management committee of the Hutt \allev Cricket Association the suggestion was made that a scheme of coaching would be of benefit to players likely to oe selected as colts. It was mentioned that the services of Messrs. .1. Unffv, Tatlersall and L. I. Coberoft might be obtained for coaching the most promising boys in the association. A suggestion was made by Mr. JWilson that clubs should be invited to forward to the association the names ol the outslandiug players who were not more than 20 years of age. \dviee was received from the Wairarapa Cricket Association that the request for a representative match for a colts team had been held over for the present, it being too early in the season to give adefinite reply. Mr. J. E. Boult suggested that tile Manawatu association be asked for a fixture. A strong objection was raised by rhe Y.M.C.A. club to the attitude of the management committee in relegating its team from B grade to C grade. A letter from the club read as follows-: “(I) The Y.M. C.A. had last season finished in sixth place on the championship ladder, being ahead of two teams which had still retained their B grade status. (One of the teams had secured six championship points less than Y.M.C.A.) (2) The committee of the 7 .M.C.A. was of the opinion that the Y.M.C.A. team was quite up to B grade standard. (3) Although it was admitted that on several occasions the team took the field short, theirs was not an isolated ease. (41 The club had always fulfilled its obligations.

The chairman. Mr. C. G. Wrack, said the case was similar to that of Petone in the Wellington association, but lie thought that in the case of Y.M.C.A. the committee had graded the teams to the best of its ability, and no doubt, the fact that Y.M.C.A. had on at least one occasion fielded only seven players weighed heavily with the committee in making its decision.

It was decided to inform the Y.M.C.A. club that the committee’s ruling was to stand. A letter was received from the Waiwetu School Committee advising that the terms for the use of the wicket at Waiwhetu School were not acceptable. Notification was received from the Wellington Mercantile Cricket League Association that December 26 and 27 were acceptable dates for the annual match with the Hutt' Valley association.
