REPERTORY BALL

Elaborate Preparations Elaborate preparations have been made to ensure the success of the first Repertory Arts Ball, to be held in the Wellington Town Hall on Friday evening. The pageant, the blue rhythm ballet arranged by Miss Beere, the dance of the sets of characters, and the spectacular living poster parade will each add a note of interest, and there will be n grand parade of those in costume. The ball will commence at 8.45 p.m., and the pageant will be at 9.10 p.m. Supper will be served in the Concert Chamber from 11 p.m. onward. Just after midnight the judging of the I’eter Pan costumes will take place, followed by the presentation of prizes, after which dancing will continue until 2 a.in. Those not in fancy dress may reserve seats in the gallery to watch the spectacle until 11 p.m., after which they may join in the supper and the dancing. The Town Hall will be transformed for the occasion into a glowing, colourful series of Continental cafes, and the lighting promises to be brilliantly effective. There will be two dance bands. Tickets may be obtained at the D.1.C., where scats and tables may be reserved. AIDING LEPER MISSIONARY SISTERS A “gift tea’’ to assist the Leper Missionary Sisters will be held on the afternoon of Saturday, October 17. • It may not be generally known that these heroic sisters are finding it very hard to make ends meet. The Mother House in France, which Is responsible for the foundation and equipment of the convent and rest house in Aurora Terrace, naturally concludes that New Zealand should be able to maintain one rest house where the sick nuns will be able to recuperate. So far from this being the case, the sisters have had to appeal to a few friends for the necessities of life. Some friends have made themselves responsible for their butter account but, as that is only one item, much remains to be done. The gift tea will give everyone an opportunity of helping by responding to this appeal and being present with gifts or cash donations. Two of the sisters who have recently returned from Makogai will be present and will give a short talk on their work. A musical programme is also being arranged and afternoon tea will be served. Gifts and donations may be sent to: Mrs. D. Phillips, 63 Ellice Street, S.l; Mrs. M. O’Connor, 72 Rongotai Terrace, E. 3; Mrs. J. J. L. Burke, 31 Arlington Street, C.2, or direct to the missionary sisters, 48 Aurora Terrace, 0.1. MASTERTON WELFARE LEAGUE Mrs. H. E.
