STOCKS AND SHARES
Wellington Market Steady ACTIVE DEMAND There was a much improved demand on the Wellington Stock Exchange yesterday, and leading issues were generally steady. The recorded turnover was not of great volume, sales being as follows:—
•Late sale Monday. Government loans were freely quoted at steady rates, but supplies were scarce and the only business was a. small parcel of 4 per cent, stock. 1955. at the nnchanged rate of £lO5/15/-. Very little interest was shown in local body and company debentures. Banks were quiet and little changed. New Zealands were marked up to 88/ I, but sellers were not showing. Financial, gas, insurance and shipping shares were steady P. and 0. deferred stock advanced to 32/6, sellers 33/-. More interest was shown in timber shares, .and business was done in Leyland O’Briens and Rotoitis. Breweries were quiet and unchanged. , There was an active demand for Australian industrial and trading issues, which were generally firm. Woolworths (N.Z.) strengthened to business at io 5/-.
