COAL MINES DISPUTE
Hope of Settlement Proposals for the settlement of the recent troubles in the coal-mining industry were made at a conference between owners’ aud miners’ representatives in Wellington yesterday, and delegates have now returned to submit these to the meu. Until this is done the result of the conference will not be known, but it was stated last night that there is every reason to believe that a satisfactory settlement will be made.
A stoppage occurred at Huntly on Monday when the truckers at the Roto waro mine refused to work threequarters of a shift. The stoppage was caused by information of a stop-work meeting, which, it is understood, was called to discuss the rates of pay for certain work.
