FORECAST FOR TO-DAY’S WEATHER.

Following is the weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 24 hours ending 3 p.m. to-day:— A shallow depression was centred yesterday north-east of East Cape, while another of the present series of westerly depressions is approaching over the south Tasman Sea. An intense anti-cyclone now covers the greater part of Australia. Northerly to westerly winds prevailing; light to moderate inainly, but increasing at times, especially in and soijth of Cook Strait; backing temporarily to southwesterly at places in the southern portion of the South Island, but a general southerly change probable after from 24 to 36 hours. Seas rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits, and on the west coast of the South Island; elsewhere in New Zealand waters slight to moderate. Moderate to strong north-west to west winds in the eastern Tasman Sea; backing to ' southerlies in the southern portion; seas rather rough to rough. Weather mainly fair at first in eastern coastal areas; otherwise changeable and with rain at times in most districts. Temperatures mild. YESTERDAY’S WEATHER. Wellington.—Mild and dull all day, and thick and misty in the afternoon, with drizzling rain. Minimum temperature on Tuesday night, 49.7 deg.; maximum yesterday, 58deg.; at 3 p.m., 51.6 deg. Rainfall at “The Dominion’’ building for 24 hours ended midnight, .21in. Total for month, 5.72 in.; for year, 41.36 in. Wanganui.—The morning was dull and overcast, but the weather cleared in the afternoon. Temperatures remained warm. Palmerston North.—Passing clouds and warm sunshine, overcast in the afternoon; mild temperatures; light north-west wind. Masterton.—Brilliantly sunny; no wind. Waipukurau.—The morning was fine and sunny, but rain threatened later. The weather again cleaned, the afternoon being bright and sunny. Auckland.—Fine and sunny; light southerly wind and dear skies; conditions warm. Christchurch. —Fine and sunny, with a moderate east-north-east breeze; maximum • temperature 63.4 deg. Dunedin.—Gusty wind from the north-east; bright sunshine in the morning; sky overcast in the'afternoon; maximum temperature 67deg.
