Expansion in August (British Official Wireless.) (Received September 15, 5.5 p.m.) Kugby, September 14. Allowing for seasonal influences overseas trade continued to expand in August. Imports amounted to £66,057.057, as compared with £68,731,020 in July aud £59,146,232 in August last year. Exports totalled £35,258,115, against £40,085,922 in July and £34,883,955 in August, 1935. Re-exports were £4,355,909 compared with £4,991,716 in July and £4,185,561 in August a year* ago.

Although the figures for imports, exports and re-exports are all lower than in July they represent an increase on August of last'year and also on August, 1934. For the first eight months of this year Imports totalled £536,624,391, an increase of £57,579,713 on the corresponding period of 1935. Exports for eight months totalled £283,170,234, an increase of. £5,433,283 compared with 1935 and of £28,080,910 compared with the corresponding period of 1934. Exports of manufactured goods have risen by £4,707,641. Principal increases in August were. Imports, grain and flour, £1,161,000; dairy produce, £347,000; beverages, £462,000; wood and timber, £440,000; iron ore, £313.000; cotton and raw waste. £1,677,000: iron and steel. £416,000: oils and fats, £417,000. Exports, vehicles, £413,000. Decreases: Imports, fresh fruit and vegetables, £832,000; rubber, £630,000. Exports, coal, £414,000; iron and steel, £391,000.'
