FORECAST FOR TO-DAY’S WEATHER.

Fair at first, but unsettled conditions developing in westerly districts. Following is the weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 24 hours ending 3 p.m. to-day:— An anti-cyclone is crossing the northern portion of the Dominion, while the first of a series of rather intense westerly depressions is approaching across the south Tasman Sea. Light to moderate south-westerly winds at first over the northern half of the North Island; otherwise moderate to strong westerly to north-westerly winds prevailing, rising to gale force in places, especially about and south of Cook Strait Seas rough south of Cape Egmont and in the Cook and Foveaux Straits areas; elsewhere in New Zealand waters slight to moderate, but rising off the east coast of the South Island. North-west to west winds of strong to gale force in the eastern Tasman bea; seas rough. . Weather fair to fine at first in most parts, but rain soon developing on the west coast and in the southern portion of the South Island. Unsettled conditions and rain gradually extending to all districts with a westerly aspect; some heavy falls likely in Westland. Temperatures mild. YESTERDAY’S WEATHER. Wellington.—Fine, mild and pleasant, with a moderate northerly wind prevailing. The minimum temperature on Monday night was 40.8 deg., and the maximum yesterday 58.2 deg. At 3 p.m. the temperature was 56.6 deg. _ Rainfall at “The Dominion” building for 24 hours ended midnight, nil. Total for month, 5.51 in.; for year, 41.15 in. Masterton.— Brilliantly sunny; no wind. Wanganui.— The morning was dull and cloudy, but the afternoon was sunny and 1 bright, with a westerly wind. Waipukurau.— A. slight frost in the morning was succeeded by a glorious sunny day. } Palmerston North.—Overcast but fine, with glimpses of warm sunshine: light westerly to north-westerly wind. Auckland. — Fine, with a moderate south-south-west wind. Christchurch. — Delightfully fine, with a moderate east-north-east breeze; maximum temperature 68.5 deg. Dunedin. — Bright and fine, except during part of the afternoon, when the sky became cloudy; light breeze from the north-west; maximum temperature 74 deg., nine degrees higher than at any time during the past six months.
