CHARGES BY BERNARD SHAW

Movie Production of “St. Joan” ) New York, September 14. Charges of interference by the “Catholic Action,” proposed in catinection with a movie production of “St. Joan;” and made by Mr. Bernard Shaw in a four-column letter to the editor of the “New York Times,” are denied by the National League of Decency and the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors’ Corporation, as well as by various heads of the Roman Catholic Church and movie censorship bodies.

The letter, which is characteristically Shavian, says: “I have everything to fear from meddling amateur busybodies, and the ‘Catholic Action’ turns out to be a body of such conceited busy-bodies.” The letter further stresses that the play in the past has been regarded by the Church In a friendly manner,, and concludes with a vigorous attack on the censorship generally. The organisations, in denying interference, expressed bewilderment ' and insisted that they knew'nothing of the matter.
