TWO MORE PLAYERS OUT OF WALLABIES

Match With Southland HARD GAME EXPECTED TO-DAY (By Telegraph.—Special Reporter.) Invercargill, September 15. Meeting Southland, the Wallabies will play a strong side actuated by fine tradition, for Southland, though it has met six such sides since 1896, has never lost a match to a team from Australia. The Wallabies have experienced further misfortune, J. D. Kelaher and R. E. McLaughlin, two of their best three-quar-ters, being injured in the match against New Zealand on Saturday. At first it was proposed to play 0. L. Bridle, the brilliant loose forward, on the wing to fill the vacancy in the three-quarter line, but the position has been overcome by placing J. D. Hammon, selected as a fiveeighth, at centre. E. de O. Gibbons, the half-back, is being given a rest after a series of hard games, V. Richards going behind the scrum. A. J. Hodgson, the fire-eating forward, is also being spelled after playing in all the games of the tour except one. •The Southland team, which is always hard to beat on Rugby Park, as is shown by its defeat of Otago there earlier this vear, will include N. Strong Team Chosen A strong team has been chosen to represent New Zealand Maoris against the Wallabies at Palmerston North next Wednesday. It includes E. Jackson and S. T. Reid (Hawke’s Bay), members of the New Zealand team which beat Australia in both matches for the Bledisloe Cup, and H. Mataira (Hawke’s Bay), a member of the 1934 All Black team in Australia and the 1935 Maori team in Australia, as well ae the following other members of the Maori team in Australia last year: N. Kotua (Marlborough) and C. Mellish (Marlborough) in the backs, and B. Rogens (Pover.ty Bay), H. Whin (North Auckland) and W. Cooper (North Auckland) in the forwards. The Maori team selected is: M. O’Connor (North Canterbury); C. McKinley (Poverty Bay), G. Pepere (East Coast), R. White (North Auckland) ; N. Kotua (Marlborough), H. Mason (North Otago); C. Mellfeh (Marlborough); W. RANFURLY SHIELD GAME Strong Side Chosen By Otago Otago will field its strongest side in the match against Wellington for the Ranfurly Shield on Saturday. The backs will include J. M. Watt (wing-three quarters) and C. C. Gillies (five-eighth), members of the New Zealand team which beat Australia in Dunedin on Saturday, as well as D. Trevathan (five-eighth), whose goal-kicking record this season includes four potted goals, six penalty goals»and nine conversions in six matches for the Ranfurly Shield. v , The forwards will be headed by J. Hore, an All Black in 1928-30-32-34-35, who will be supported by C. E. Quaid, the former Canterbury and Wellington representative, and W. Parkhill, F. Green and L. E. Niven, who have played for the South Island, and F. Vorrath, one of the All Blacks last year in Great Britain. A Press Association message from Dunedin announces the following team: J M. Taylor; J.
