RANFURLY SHIELD HISTORY
“Old Player,” Wellington, has asked for the following details about the Ranfurly Shield.—When Wellington took the Ranfurly Shield on tour in 1920 they lost it to Southland. Southland gave Wellington first opportunity the next season, and brought the shield to Athletic Park, where Wellington regained it. When Hawke’s Bay had possession of the shield they played two matches for it away from home. They brought it to Athletic Park in 1925 against Wellington. and the following season gave Canterbury a chance at Lancaster Park. Hawke’s Bay won both those matches.
