THE DUTCH FAIR
Wellington City Mission’s Effort Active work is being carried on in the absence of the Rev. T. Fielden Taylor, who is seriously ill in hospital, at the Dutch fair, now being' held at the Town Hall to raise funds for the Wellington City Mission. Yesterday afternoon a successful bridge party was held, while last night’s entertainment was enthusiastically received by the large gathering. The programme was given by the General. Motors concert party from Petone and the band of the First Battalion, Wellington Regiment, was also in attendance. There is a large variety of goods on sale at the various stalls—sweets, woolly garments, produce, Ice cream, books, cakes, flowers, hardware and. children’s toys, etc. The tea-rooms are being well patronised, and the cooking demonstration, which is being held every afternoon and evening, is creating great interest. This afternoon a baby show will be 'held at 3 o’clock, and the Seatoun Pierrot Troupe will provide the entertainment to-night The Boys’ Institute Band will play. - City Missioner’s Appeal Sir, —I do feel that some kind of messagel is due from me to you to show my appreciation of much kindness since my compulsory relegation to hospital. I can only conclude that I have been suffering from a complete breakdown which, I like to imagine, strange as it may seem, ’was the result of overwork. I am now much, better, but seem quite unable to take a full grasp of things. The plain fact is that we are not doing too well financially in the Dutch Fair, and unless things mend during the next few days we shall just about pay expenses, which is heartbreaking. Please express to everybody my unfeigned' thanks for much kindness.—l am, T. FIELDEN TAYLOR.
[Although his condition shows a slight improvement, we are informed that Mr. Taylor’s medical advisers consider it still necessary to forbid all visitors.— Editor.]
