Line Direct Service The Federal Company yesterday received cabled advice that the O.S.K. Line direct service front Japan , to New Zealand and back is to be resumed next month after a brief interruption owing to the uncertain trade position between Japan and Australia. The first sailing will be from Japan on October 2, reaching Auckland on October 23. and returning from Auckland, after calling at Wellington. Lyttelton, Dunedin and Wellington, on November 6. The vessels on the return voyage to Japan will call at Cebu, Manila, Hong-Kong anti Shanghai, and the ships used in the service will be the Sydney Maru. Brisbane Maru and Melbourne Maru. ZEALANDIC’S DEPARTURE. The Shaw, Savill motor-ship Zealandic is now scheduled to clear Auckland finally on Friday for London. Avonmouth. Liverpool and Glasgow, via Cape Horn and Las Palmas. AORANGI LEAVES HONOLULU. The C.-A. motor-liner Aorangl. en route from Vancouver, is to leave Honolulu today for Suva and Auckland. With bulk motor-spirit for the Vacuum Oil Company .the tanker 'John Knudsen reached Auckland yesterday evening from Palembang. She Is due at Wellington next Saturday and will later complete discharge at Dunedin. WANGANELLA AT SYDNEY. Cabled advice has been received that the Huddart, Parker motor-liner Wanganella, from Auckland, reached Sydney yesterday morning. She is to leave there again next Saturday for Wellington and is due here on September 23 FREIGHT INDEX NUMBERS. The Chamber of Shipping index number of freights (based on 1920 equals 100) for June. 1036. at 20.50 shows a decrease of 0.68 per cent, compared with the previous month, but is 15.77 per cent, higher than a year ago. The European Waters group number is 21.68, which represents a decrease of 1.54 per cent, on the month, but is 10.30 per cent, higher than in June. 1035. The Red Sea, Arabia and India group num ber, 21.21, is 0.62 per cent, higher than a ago and 26-48 per cent, higher than a year ago. The Argentine-Uruguay number at 18.74 shows a decrease of 0.32 per cent, compared with the previous month, but Is 0.27 per cent, higher than a year ago The United States group number at -0.9 i is down 1.04 per cent, on the month, but is up 24.23 per cent, on the year. The rate for Canada at 18.05 is 1.04 per cent, lower than a month ago, but Is 11-63 per cent, higher than a year ago. The time-charter rate at 16.44 is the same as a month ago, and is 10.04 per cent, higher than a year I ago.
