Closing of Refugee Camp
POLICE CHARGE ANGRY CROWD By Telegraph—Preus Assn.--Copyright. (Received September 14. 8.20 p.m.) Gibraltar, September 14. The authorities’ sudden decision to close a refugee camp accommodating 800 British men, women and children led to a disorderly demonstration following a quiet procession which included women banner-bearers demanding the rights of British subjects Police shepherded the procession to the police station as it moved toward Government House and arrested several persons. The remainder volun teered to accompany them to jail. The police then made a baton charge, injured several and dispersed the remainder. but subsequently groups ex eitedlJP paraded the streets. Police are guarding Government House. Appar ently the refugees, carrying their belongings, must spend the night in the streets. Further disturbances ate feared.
