FORECAST FOR TO-DAY’S WEATHER.

Fine temporarily, but unsettled conditions again expected. Following is the weather report and forecast issued iby the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 24 hours ending 8 p.m. to-day:— A depression is located east of New Zealand, while an anti-cyclone is advancing over the north Tasman Sea. A fresh and rather intense westerly depression is moving off south-east Australia. South-westerly to southerly winds, strong at first on parts of the east coast of the South Island, but otherwise light to moderate; veering to westerly and northerly during the next 24 hours, and increasing again about and south of Cook Strait. Seas rough north of Farewell Spit, and rough but decreasing south of East Cape; z' elsewhere in New Zealand waters moderate, but later rising on the west coast of the South, Island. Moderate south-westerly winds at first in the northern portion of the eastern Tasman Sea, but ’westerly tto north-westerly winds soon prevailing and becoming strong in the southern portion; seas moderate but later rising. t Weather fair to fine at first generally, but unsettled conditions setting in shortly and rain developing in the western and southern,portions of the South Island and extending later to most districts with a westerly aspect. Temperatures becoming milder to-day. YESTERDAY’S WEATHER.’ Wellington.—Fine and pleasant, though cloudy in the early morning and afternoon. A light and variable wind blew. Minimum temperature on ’ Sunday night, 42deg.; maximum yesterday, 57.8 deg.; and at 3 p.m. yesterday, 50.8 deg. Rainfall at “The Dominion” building for 24 hours ended midnight, .Ilin, Total for month. 5.51 in.; for year, 41.15 in. - Palmerston North.—Light passing clouds; bright, warm sunshine; strong, gusty, westerly wind. # Masterton.—Fine and sunny; light southerly breeze. Wanganui.—Extremely stormy early in the morning, but an improvement toward daybreak, when heavy rain ceased. The day was fine, with blue sky and passing clouds and a gusty westerly wind. Waipukurau.—Bright and sunny, but there was a cold wind from the Ruahine ranges, Which remain snow-coated to the foothills. Auckland.-— A. fresh south-west wind and overcast unsettled weather in the morning. when occasional Tight showers were experienced. After midday the wind moderated and conditions improved. The barometer was rising all day and registered 29.95 in. • Christchurch. —After overnight rain the day was fine with a very strong and gusty south-west wind. The maximum temperature was 51.2 deg. The barometer was rising slowly and last evening stood at 29.801 n. , Dunedin. —The weather early in the morning was dull and threatening, but the sun shone for the greater part of the day and temperatures were mild.
