Hotelkeepers at Play on Hutt Links The fifth annual tournament of the North Island Licensed Victuallers’ Golf Association opened on the Hutt links yesterday, when 81 competitors from all parts of the island ‘ecd up in expectation of winning at least one of the 50 handsome trophies which are on the prize-list. The weather was ideal, and the hotelkeepers showed that they knew quite a lot about the royal and ancient game. J. 'N. Anderson, Hawera, covered the course in 85, and A. N. Mathieson, Napier, did a round of SB. In the first round of the retailers championship, A. N. Mathieson (Napier) beat A. Jensen (Napier) 5 and 4; E. Mauley (Wanganui) beat J. O’Sullivan (Opotiki), 3 and 2; J. A. C. Fleming (Gisborne) beat L. Cornaga (Cambridge), 2 up; J. N. Anderson (Hawera) beat J. Power (New Plymouth), 4 and 2. 'The tournament will be concluded today, when the semi-finals and finals of the championships and handicap, events will be played. Eighteen and 36-hole bogey competitions will be arranged for all those not drawn in matches. _ . \ . The annual meeting of the association was held at the Grand Hotel last night, when Mr. N. Tailby, of Auckland, was elected president, and will be duly installed at the presentation of prizes dinner at the Grand Hotel to-night. It was decided to hold the 1937 tournament at Auckland. The proceeds of the putting competitions held during the tournament will be handed to the Mayor of Wellington’s relief fund. The tournament is being conducted on businesslike lines, with the reins in the hands of the competent hon. secretary, Mr. G. B. Menzies, Napier.
