LODGE MEETINGS

Grand United Order of Oddfellows Loyal Ryde branch of the Grand United Order of Oddfellows held another sports evening last meeting night, the executive transacting urgent business. A feature of the evening was a surprise visit by the Petone Pioneer branch with their set of indoor bowls. Sides were immediately chosen and some keenly contested matches were played. Table tennis was also played, the three tables being in constant use. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Petone Pioneer members for their visit and an invitation to visit them was at once accepted. Supper concluded an enjoyable evening. Loyal Central Lodge. Loyal Central branch held its fortnightly meeting recently. Sister Hooper, N.G., presiding, and Bro. B. Hutchinson, P.N.G., supervising. Three new members were initiated and two candidates proposed for membership. Sister Harnor Senior and Bro. Dunne, of Loyal W. Bain branch, were welcomed. Bro. Kennedy reported on the success of the recent table tennis tournament, Bro. Couper on arrangements for the benefit dance and Sister Hooper on a recent meeting of the medical institute and ritual competition. After the meeting supper was served and badminton and cards were played. Star of Lower Hutt Lodge. The last meeting of Star of Lower Hutt branch was abandoned and an open night was staged, the theatrical party giving its third concert before a large attendance of members aud friends. The concert was well presented, and the audience showed its appreciation by the many recalls. After the concert supper was served, followed by dancing, which was continued until a late hour. The lodge orchestra supplied excellent music. Loyal Onslow Lodge. The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Onslow branch was held at the Parish Hall, Khandallah, Bro. Edwards, N.G., presiding, aud Bro. Lindsay, P.N.G., supervising. There was a large attendance of members. One candidate was initiated. Bro. Couper, of Loyal Central brunch, was a visitor in connection' with the social activities of, his branch. At the conclusion of the meeting a closely contested table tennis tournament was played, Bro. Lindsay winning by a narrow margin. Independent Order of Oddfellows At the recent meeting of District Lodge, Independent Order of Oddfellows, over which Bro. R. J. Mathers, D.D.G.M., presided, the second degree was conferred on three members. The report of the ball committee indicated that the recent event was one of the most successful yet held. The proposed agreement between the hospital committee aud hospital board was considered and finally ratified. Judges for the ritual competitions were appointed as follows:—-Subordinate senior, Bros. H A. Hardham aud F. J. Joues; junior Bros. E. D. Wallis and 11. J. Rowuey; Rebekah senior, Bros. F. J. Jones and P. J. Lee; senior, Bros. P, J. Lee and W. 11. Munro. Several remits for the forthcoming session of Grand Lodge were approved, Bro. IV. 11. Munro was appoint ed returning officer for the election of representatives. The D.D.G.M presenteu Bro. F. J. Phillips with a past degree master’s jewel in recognition of services rendered in the district and Degree Lodge. Southern Cross Lodge. At the meeting of Southern Cross Lodge, it was decided to accept the date arranged by Ngatitoa Lodge tor the crib bage tournament Arrangements were made for playing Excelsior Tent, 1,0. K.. in the U.F.S. Council 500 tournament. Reports were received from the dispensarv delegate. Bro. Salmond, and the social committee. One candidate was admitted to membership by initiation, and one by transfer A further candidate was nominated for admission. Victoria Rebekah Lodge.

Official visits were received from Esther and Ngaio Rebekah Lodges. Invitation’ to socials were received from Rabin. Ngaio, Onslow and Wildey Lodges. Five women candidates were proposed for membership. A vole of welcome to the visitors was responded to bj Sister God-

Two propositions were received for membership. It was decided officially to visit Wilder Lodge next meeting. A vote Tw™ to visiting brethren was responded to by Bro. E. Bins ead, P.G, of Southern Cross Lodge. After the co elusion of lodge business, a successful dance was held in the form of a vice-versa evening, there being a large attendance. Prizes for the best “ladies’ '’ wc t Bros E D. Wallis and H. Woolcott, ‘and for the test “gentlemen” to Mrs, Wallis and Sister Sergent. Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows At Ue fortnightly meeting •< to resume office. Invitations were received from the Grand Master' and the Loval Britannia Lodge to attend social ■gatherings. The lecture master confer red degrees on three members, and at the close of lodge ping-pong, and indoor bowls afforded a pleasant social hour. Loyal Newtown Lodge. Bro. J. Young presided over a large attendance of members and visitors at a recent meeting of Loyal Newtown Lodi; . The challenge for the Telford Cup from Loyal Kilbirnie Lodge was accepted. The lodge adjourned to entertain visitors in a progressive 500 tournament. At a late date Bro. Young, Noble Grand,. conducted a well-attended meeting at which invitations to social evenings were received from the Grand Master and Loyal Bl • tannia Lodge. Bro. S. Eades, last Grand, presented the lodge with a model launch, the pt-ocecds of disposal to be credited to the Christmas tree fund. A new member was initiated into the lodge and order, Bro. Johns acting as conductor and Bro. Earles as lecture master. Bro Bumbleton proposed four new. candidates tor initiation next lodge night. Loyal Sister Wallis Lodge. At the recent meeting of Loyal Sister Wallis Lodge, over which Sister M. iregurtha presided, one new member was initiated, Sisters, Reynard and Forbes being the conductors. Arrangements were made to hold a social at the conclusion of the next meeting and an early opening was announced. The correspondence included an invitation from the Grand Master of the order in New Zealand. Bro. A. C. Blair, to be his guests at a social gathering at an early date, to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of his membership in the order. Notification of their annual dance was received from. the Loyal Newtown Lodge, and an invitation was received from Loyal Britannia Lodge to attend a social at the close of their next meeting. Sister Reynard reported on a recent meeting of the medical institute. It was resolved to invite the valley lodges and Antipodean Lodge to the first meeting in October, cards and dancing beftig arranged for. a social hour at conclusion of the meeting. Sister Reynard nominated two candidates tor membership, on behalf of Bro. Webb, of the Loyal Newtown Lodge. Loyal Antiimdean Lsxige. Visitors from the Loyal Petone Lodge and Loyal Vincent Lodges were present at the recent meeting of Loyal Antipodean Lodge, over which Bro. Hicks presided Bro. A. C. Blair was congratulated on having attained his jubilee of membership while in the position of Grand Master of the order in New Zealand.
