The manager of an important firm that specialises in the manufacture of iron and Steel products recently told a placement officer that during the past six months his firm had almost trebled its staff, most of whom had been engaged through the Placement Office.
The Petone Fire Brigade answered a call at 8.45 last night to the State Theatre, Petone, where a quantity of film had caught alight. The brigade was able to prevent any greater damage.
