NEW ART LOAN

Pictures From National Gallery at Sydney

The collection of Australian, English and foreign oil and water colours lent by the National Art Gallery, Sydney, to the New Zealand National Art Gallery, arrived at Wellington by the Marama yesterday. A full list of these paintings has already been published and discloses the inclusion of some very fine works, among which are several "classics.” /■ One of those is that much copied and reprinted .painting “Wedded” by Lord Leighton, a picture which has been sold by the thousand in every country of the world. To see the original should in itself prove to be an attraction to those who follow art in this country.

Of particular interest will be the really admirable display of paintings by Australian artists of repute—men such as Hans Hey sen. Longstaffe, W. B. Mclnnes, Max Meldrum, . James Quinn, Will Ashton, Eliott Gruner and others. Then, too, there will be pictures, sent independently, by ex-New Zealand artists, now resident in Australia.

The collection will be unpacked at the National Art Gallery during the next day or two. The opening date of the exhibition will be announced later in the week.
