CABARET DANCE

R.K.O. Radio Films Members of the staff of R.K.0.-Radio Pictures and their friends arrived at the Mayfair Cabaret in full force on Saturday night for what was described on invitations as “Radio’s Knight Out.” It was an excellent night for dancing, and no opportunity was missed for making the occasion one that will not be forgotten for many a day. Dancing took place in both rooms, the gay little cabaret tables with their coloured chairs and all the alcoves accommodating their full quota of parties, and one end of the main room was comfortably furnished as a lounge. Vases of spring flowers were used for decoration both in the dance rooms and in the Italian room where a buffet supper was served. Gay paper hats on each table added to the air of festivity, as did streamers, balloons and “gob” hats that were handed around. A popular novelty was the balloon ascent, many vari-coloured balloons being released during the evening from Inverted umbrellas suspended from the ceiling. These were eagerly sought by the more nimble among the dancers. Two children, Shirley Macdonald and Ashley Couper, were loudly applauded for their dancing, and much merriment was caused by “Wriggle Ecto,” an apparently boneless young man who was seen in some amazing eccentric dances. Dressed as an Am-rl-can sailor, he danced in a manner that resemibled the popular Hal le itoy and other acrobatic dancers. The committee responsible for this successful dance comprised: Miss K. Walker, wearing a salmon crinkle

crepe; Miss M. Drysdale, mauve taffeta ; Miss Macdonald, in eau-de-nil-taffeta; Messrs. Fred ; Keeley and B. Bolton. Among the many present were: Mr. W. Duff, New Zealand manager of R.K.0.-Radio Pictures, and Mrs. Duff, who was wearing magnolia satin and net and who was presented by the staff with a beautiful boutjuet; Mr. and Mrs. F.
