ROOSEVELT IN CANADA

First Official Visit By American President

Quebec, August 1. President Roosevelt was the guest of Lord Tweedsmuir, Governor-General of Canada, at his summer home here to-day. This is the first official visit an American President has ever made to the Dominion of Canada.

It was a significant occasion, for in addition public addresses were delivered by President Roosevelt, Lord Tweedsmuir, and the Prime Minister (Mr. Mackenzie King). The three statesmen held a long private conference at which it is understood questions of commercial relations between the two countries were discussed. It had previously been revealed that President Roosevelt would initiate conversations toward co-operative development of water power and perhaps an exchange of electrical resources, and it is thought that they also discussed trade.

In a public address President Roosevelt inferentially extended to King Edward an invitation to visit the United States during his contemplated tour of Canada in 1938.
