Distribution of Exports

During the year ended June 30 last, the exports of wool from the Commonwealth of Australia totalled 2,782,063 bales, the quantity showing a decrease of 69,033 bales compared with the preceding twelve months. The following figures show the shipments to the principal destinations during the past two years:

Increases are shown by Japan, 143.985 bales; United States, 70,390 bales; Czechoslovakia, 24,000 hales; Germany, 5876 bales; Austria, 6211 bales; Canada, 5439 bales; Poland. 2480 bales; and India, 2292 bales. The United Kingdom shows a decrease of 167,346 bales; Belgium, 74.997 bales; Italy. 41,874 bales; France, 18,565 bales; Spain, 17,526 bales; Switzerland, 4252 bales; Netherlands, 4227 halos; and Sweden, 1947 bales.

Mount Lyell Production The Mount Lyell Mining and Railway Company, Limited, has issued the following progress report for the fortnight ended July 22: —North Mt. Lyell: Tons extracted, 5537. Royal Tharsis: Tons extracted. 2417. West Lyell: Tons extracted, 14,524. Prince Lyell: Tons extracted, 1113. Lyell Comstock: Tons extracted, 3855. No. 7 level, No. 2 mullock pass rise to 28ft. through orc. No. 8 level north drive to 17ft. through ore; work then suspended. Main shaft sunk to 30ft. below No. 8 level through porphyry. Reduction works: Furnace in blast for full period ; 9312 tons refinery anodes produced for current year. Concentrator: Mil] operated 316 hours and treated 26.553 tons, producing 2344 tons concentrates. Copper refinery: Tank house in operation throughout fortnight, 509 tons cathode copper being produced for period. Total for current year, 10.539 tons.
