Mawson’s Ship Sails (From "The Dominion,’.’ July 20, 1911.) The ship Aurora, recently purchased by Dr. Mawson for his Antarctic expedition, has sailed from London on her voyage to Australia. The doge were safely shipped. Lieutenant Ninnis, assistant surveyor, and Dr. Merz, the geologist, are tne only members of the expedition sailing in the Aurora. The officers and crew number 25. Lieutenant Watkins and Profcwor Bickerton will sail in the P. and O. liner China with the aeroplane, which hue been severely tested at Brooklands. the tests proving highly satisfactory. It is hoped that, carrying a pilot and passenger, the monoplane will be able to remain in the air long enough to cover a distance of 250 miles for a final dash to the Pole. » * » At the quarterly meeting of the Gisborne Chamber of Commarce yesterday the following resolution was passed:— "That this chamber will gladly co-operate with the Napier chamber in urging the commencement of the Napier-Gisborne railway on condition that the Napier chamber will jqiu with us in our efforts to get tho line commenced simultaneously at both ends.”
