Vice-Regal. The following were the guests of their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Lady Galway at luncheon at Government House on Saturday:— The Most Rev. A. W. Williams (Bishop of Waiapu) and Mrs. Williams, Rt. Rev. G. F. Graham-Brown (Bishop in Jerusalem), Mr. and Mrs. Compton Smith, Mr. and Mrs. E. „F. Hadfield, Mr. and Mrs. E. IL Anderson, Mr. E. D. Cachemaille, and Mr. and Mrs. E. Herrick. On Saturday afternoon their Excellencies reopened the Presbyterian Boys’ Home at Berhampore.

Mr. V. H. Waters, of Wellington, is visiting Auckland. Mr. C. J. Pugsley left Wellington last night for the north. Mr. H. D. Moss has returned to Wellington from the south. Mr. F. Bragg, a Salvation Army veteran of Auckland, is on a holiday visit to Wellington. Mr. A. S. Nieholl was a passenger for Christchurch on Saturday night from Wellington. Mr. J. R. McKenzie left Wellington on Saturday night on his return to Christchurch. Mr. A. Grant, South Canterbury, will leave from Wellington by air for the South Island to-day. Dr. W. Gilmour, pathologist at the Auckland Hospital, left, by the Monterey to attend the Pan-Pacific Surgical Conference to be held at Honolulu. The Rev. E. O. Blamires, accompanied by Mrs. Blamires, arrived at Wellington from the South Island on Saturday morning. Mr. A. J. Conway, of the Transport Department, has returned to duty in the department after several weeks’ leave of absence.

Mr. Ernest Davis, Mayor of Auckland, left by the Monterey on Saturday afternoon on a holiday trip to Suva and Pago Pago. He is due back at Auckland on August 7. Squadron Leader N. P. Dixon, a New Zealander serving in the Royal Air Force, has received an appointment for duty with the Egyptian Army Air Force.

Mr. Joseph Hunter, who will retire from the rectorship of the Gore High School next month, has been appointed to the newly-created position of publicity agent under the Missions Committee of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand. Mr. Hunter’s headquarters will be at Dunedin, though the committee functions at Auckland. Mr. Thomas R. Campbell has been appointed a director of John Dewar and Sons, Ltd., whisky distillers, of Perth, Scotland, and London. Mr. Campbell, who has been in the service of the company for 40 years, arrived in Australia 30 years ago, and in 1929 succeeded Mr. George Wright as general manager for Australia and New Zealand. Mr. Campbell is at present on a brief visit to England and Scotland, and is expected to return to Australia in September.
