FORECAST FOR TO-DAY’S WEATHER.

Still unsettled, but improving gradually; temperatures cold.

Following is the weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 24 hours ending 3 p.m. to-day:

Pressure is still rather low over the North Island and high to the south, but the anti-cyclone over the Tasman Sea has decreased in intensity. Acj clone is centred over south-eastern Australia. Moderate south-east to southerly winds. Seas moderate to rather rough south of East Cape, with a south-easterly swell; otherwise slight to moderate in New Zealand waters. Light to fresh south-easterly winds in the eastern Tasman Sen, but a change to freshening north-easterlies advancing later from the west; seas moderate but later rising. . , ... . . ... Weather still cloudy to overcast and in places misty in eastern districts, with showers or drizzling rain at many places; but improving gradually, except in the north-eastern portion of the North Island, I*air to fine elsewhere. Temperatures cold. WEEK-END WEATHER. Wellington. Saturday afternoon was sunny, and the night clear, but otherwise Wellington experienced a dull, cold week-end, with occasional light showers, mainly, however, on the eastern side of the harbour. It was cold throughout Saturday night, and a light southerly breeze prevailed. There was one degree of frost on Sunday morning. Maximum temperature on Saturday night, 48.7 deg.; minimum, 39.8 deg.; maximum on Sunday, 46.4 deg. Rainfall at “The Dominion’’ building for 48 hours ended midnight, .lain. Total for month. 3.86 in.; for year, 31.27 in. Palmerston North.— Saturday: Gloriously fine, with bright sunshine and passing clouds; almost calm. Sunday: Bright sunshine in morning; heavy rain showers in afternoon; light westerly breeze. Auckland. — Very changeable and unsettled. On Saturday the wind was light northerly. A fog prevailed for six hours early in the morning. The wind yesterday was light south-east. Conditions were cloudy and threatening, an occasional light shower being experienced. Christchurch.— Bleak, with e moderate south-westerly breeze and low temperatures. The barometer fell slightly to 29.932 in. on Saturday, but was 30.039 m. at 4 p.m. yesterday. A light, misty rain fell yesterday, making conditions unpleasant. Dunedin— Light but steady rain with occasional heavy showers fell throughout Saturday, and continued yesterday. The fall on Saturday was .55m., and a similar amount fell up till the middle of the afternoon yesterday, making the total since the commencement of the present rain on Thursday 1.82 in. The temperature was mild and there was very little wind. The barometer I rose steadily and registered 30.17 in. yesterday afternoon.
