Steeplechase Contest at Gisborne KAHUNOKE WINS By Telegraph—Press Association. _ Gisborne, July 25. For the concluding day of the Poverty Bay Turf Club’s meeting there was good weather, and the going was good. There was a large attendance, and the totalisator investments were £6003/10/-. compared with £4167/10/- on the corresponding day last year, an increase of £1836. The total for the meeting was £9960, against £7040 10/-. au increase of £2614/10/-. An exciting contest was witnessed in the Tc Hapara Steeples, in which live started. The first mishap occurred in front of the stand, when Koval Shift came down. When the field was In the western bend heading for home. Dark Princess, with a live-length lead, struck a fence and disloged tier rider, leaving Kahnnoke in charge. The final fence near the stand was well cleared by Kaliunokc, but Cnpella Abbey, who followed, came down, bringing down' Cotsfleld, also Dark Princess, winch had no rider. Kaliunoke won casing up. As the riderless horses came In. L. Mattneson remounted Cotsfleld, J. Walsh remounted Capella Abbey, mid a spectator, Mr. L. Colbert, remounted Dark Princess. Alt the riders covered I lie distance, but Walsh, who came in third after Cotsfleld. could no-t draw the weight, mid third place was awarded Dark Princess.
