TRADE WITH JAPAN

O.S.K. Line Service The Federal Company, New Zealand agents for the O.S.K. Line, yesterday received cabled advice that owing to the uncertainty in the trade position between Japan and Australia, the company’s newlystarted separate service from Japan to New Zealand, would be discontinued in the meantime. The position will be reviewed again shortly when the Australia-Japan trade position is clarified. The O.S.K. Line combined Japan-Austra-lia-New Zealand service will, in the meantime be continued. An improvement will also be made, as the company’s two fast new 6500-ton motor-ships Canberra Maru and Tokyo Maru will replace the Melbourne Maru and Sydney Maru, which will be withdrawn from service. The first sailings in this service will be as follows: — Canberra Maru, leaves Moji August 2 for Australia, Dunedin, due August 29, Lyttelton, due August 31, Wellington, due September 1, Auckland due September 4, thence to Japan, via Sydney and Brisbane. Tokyo Maru. leaves Moji early September for Australia, Dunedin, due October 8, Lyttelton, Wellington and Auckland. Brisbane Maru, leaves Moji October 2 for Australia, Dunedin, due November 1, Lyttelton, Wellington and Auckland. FIONA WITH SUGAR. With raw sugar from Fiji, the Colonial Sugar Company's Fiona is due at Auckland at noon to-day. MAKURA AT SAN FRANCISCO. The Union Company’s R.M.S. Makura, from Sydney and Wellington, was due at San Francisco yesterday morning. She will leave there again next Wednesday for Papeete, Rarotonga, Wellington and Sydney. and is due here on August 17.

SURREY AT AUCKLAND. From Glasgow and Liverpool the Federal steamer Surrey reached Auckland at midday yesterday. She is to leave there again next Friday for Wellington, Lyttelton. Dunedin and Oamaru to complete discharge, and is now- due here on August 2. FORDSDALE DELAYED. Delayed by rain at Dunedin, the Shaw, Savill steamer Fordsdale Is now to leave there on Monday for Bluff and Napier to complete discharge of her London cargo. KENT’S DEPARTURE. The Federal steamer Kent is now to clear 'Wellington finally at noon to-day for London, Avonmouth, Liverpool, Manchester and Glasgow, via the Panama Canal. OLIVEBANK WITH PHOSPHATES. The Olivebank left Nauru Island on July 20 with phosphates for discharge at Auckland and 'Wanganui. She is due at Auckland on July 30. STORM TO DOCK. The Canterbury Shipping Company’s steamer Storm, which has been running under charter to the Union Company, was handed back to the Canterbury Company to-day. She is to leave Wellington to-day for Dunedin to dock, and will then resume her running in the Dunedin-Wellington-Wanganul service. RANGITANE LEAVES LONDON. Cabled advice has been received by the New Zealand Shipping Company that its motor-liner Rangitane left London on Thursday for Wellington and Auckland. She is due here on August 26. MATAKANA LOADING. From Townsville the Shaw. Savill steamer Matakana reached New Plymouth yesterday morning to commence her Homeward loading. She is to leave there again on Monday for Picton. Wellington, Gisborne and Auckland to till up. The vessel is due here on July 30 and will clear Auckland finally on August 7 for London, via Cape Horn and Montevideo. PORT ADELAIDE ARRIVES HOME. Cabled advice has been received by the Port Line that the Port Adelaide reached Southampton on Thursday. She left Wellington on June 14 for Southampton and London, via Cape Horn and St. Vincent.
