Believed to have flown 1500 miles from Victoria, a pigeon fell exhausted on to the deck of the coastal steamer Ka lingo as the vessel was ploughing through heavy seas. The bird was equipped with a bearing the ia~ scription “VRPC 35 221,” and is believed by Captain C. W. Ostenfeld to be a racing pigeon from Victoria. When the vessel berthed ati Auckland the bird had recovered, and apparently was none the worse for its experience.
