RUGBY FOOTBALL

Wellington’s Match With Hawke’s Bay A POSSIBLE TEAM The first interprovincial Rugby match to be played iu Wellington this season is fixed for next Saturday, when Wellington will meet Hawke’s Bay. The Wellington team will probably be chosen next week. The following players are in training. , . , „ Baeks: W. Crisp, 11. R. Pollock, L. 11. Edwards, A. G. Hansen, J. Wareham, J. L. Griffiths, J. Fleming, 11. L. Baldwin, E. W. Tindill, B. S. Sadler. Forwards: A. 11. Andrews, J. R. Lamason, K. Guy, J. Wells, F. H. Fraser Smith, M. W. Devine, C. Pringle, F. C. Leahy, A. Lambourn, R. R. Hull, M. Wright, C. M. Ongley. Against Taranaki on June 23, when Wellington won 18-16, the team was: W. Crisp; L. 11. Edwards, A. G. Hansen, J. Wareham; 11. R. Pollock, J. Fleming; E. W. Tindill; G. Wales, A. H. Andrews, M. W. Devine, J. Wells, K. Guy. I. Mclntosh, A. Lambourn, F. C. Leahy. On that occasion, however, the selector was unable to pick players from Wellington College Old Boys and Poneke, these two clubs being engaged iu a special match at Athletic Park. Though no official announcement has been made, it is suggested that a likely combination to represent Wellington against Hawke's Bay would be: H. It. Pollock; L. H. Edwards, J. Fleming, J. Wareham; J. L. Griffiths, H. L. Baldwin ; B. S. Sadler; A. H. Andrews, J. Wells, J. R. Lainnson, F. H. Fraser Smith, M. W. Devine, R. R. Hull, A. Lambourn, F. 0. Leahy. With this composition- the team would play a three-two-three scrum instead of a three-four-one. ■ Lamason would provide the goalkicking. The Hawke's Bay team, which has beaten Wairarapa twice this season, is expected to include S. T. Reid. H. Mataira and D. Dalton, three All Blacks, iu the forwards, as well as 11. Rolls, who has played for the North Island. In today's club games at Napier and Hastings C. Robins, who has represented both Wellington and North Auckland at centre, will make his first appearance in his new province, and C. hl. Le Quesne, who played for the North Island last season at second five-eighth, will take the field again after being on the injured list for several weeks. Another player who will reappear to-day is L. E. Patchett, "The Marlborough Express,” who played on the wing for Hawke’s Bay after moving to Napier from Blenheim. He also has been out of the game for some weeks with injuries. ALL BLACK MOVED Jack Best to Fly to New Job in Hamilton

Jack Best, who has represented Marlborough in representative games for several years, and who was one of the first “certainties” chosen for the 1935 All Blacks, has been transferred to the Hamilton offices of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, aud is to take over his new duties on Monday. Best is one of the representative side to play Buller at Westport to-day for the Seddon Shield and, rather than let the team for which he has played so long down by not taking the field, he proposes returning to Blenheim after the game—an all-night motor journey—and catching the Union Airways’ aeroplane on Sunday morning for Palmerston North, where he will connect with the north-bound Limited express on Sunday night, and so reach Hamilton in time to begin bis work on Monday. TO-DAY’S CLUB GAMES Important Fixture at Athletic Park Because Petoue is a rapidly-advancing team, and Poueke is one of the three leading sides, to-day’s game at Athletic Park is oue of the most important, of the senior championship of the Wellington Rugby Union. For the engagement the teams are wellequipped, both sides having the material ■back and forward to give a display of the real Poneke-Petone type. The match is to begin at 3 p.m., and it will be preceded by another top division contest, Johnsonville v. Marist Brothers’ Old Boys, which should also be of much interest.

With only three more series to be decided next month, it would seem from the points already gained by the participants in the competition that championship prospects are now shared by Athletic, Poueke, Wellington College Old Boys, and Petone. The championship points in the top -division are:—Athletic 19, Wellington College Old Boys 18, Poneke 18 Petone 15, Eastbourne, Johnsonville, and St. Patrick’s College Old Boys each 12. Hutt. 8, Wellington 8, and Marist Brothers’ Old Boys 4. Another point about to-day’s football is that the players will be having their final run before Wellington's representative match with Hawke's Bay, and particular notice will be taken of form of players in view of the big event next Saturday.
