SCHOOLGIRL KILLED
Crushed by Backing Lorry By Telegraph—Press Association. New Plymouth, July 24. A schoolgirl, June Vivian, aged 8, died in hospital two hours and a half after being run over by a fruit hawker’s lorry this morning. The child was waiting for a tram in company with some playmates. The lorry was backing toward a shop. A rear wheel passed over the child, crushing her body severely. The driver did not feel the impact, but learned of the accident when he was signalled by a shop employee. When the driver first sounded his horn the children stepped to the footpath, and he did not notice them return to the road when he was backing.
