Death of Mr. T. E. Taylor
(From “The Dominion,” July 28, 1011.) The deep tolling of the Christchurch Cathedral bell late ’yesterday afternoon proclaimed to a saddened city that the end had come, and thnt the Mayor (Mr. T. E. Taylor, M.P.) had passed away. [Mr. Taylor was a very prominent politician of the day, being a vehement critic of the then Premier, Mr. Seddon, and a leader of the prohibition movement.] * » # “Bobbie” Leach, evading the police, entered the Niagara River in a steel barrel, and was carried over tbe Horseshoe Falls, reappearing a few seconds later. Part of the eml of the barrel was damaged, Leach was rescued 15 minutes later. His kneecap was broken, and be was badly bruised, but otherwise uninjured.
M. Beaumont has won the “Daily Mail” prize of £10.090 for the air circuit race over England and Scotland. M. Beaumont completed the circuit of 1000 miles in 22 hours 16.98 minutes.
