An Animal Book
The loveliest story about birds and animals that I have ever read is the “Mystery in the Windflower Wood” by Flora Klickmann. The tale is all about the disappearance of the song thrushes nest which was built in a holly bush. Things get worse when Adelaide disappears too! (Adelaide is the naughty daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Song Thrush). However, the mystery is cleared up at last and the thrushes settle down in the fir tree. The main "characters” are Mac, the dog, the lady-with-the-crumbs, and, of course, the thrushes. There are lots and lots more, such as the "policeman;” and the “schoolmaster,” and Bunny as well but even without them this would be a lovely story, and with them —well you simply must read it. —"Starflower” (14), Levin.
