RUGBY LEAGUE
Board of Control Cup Competition To-day
The Wellington Rugby League board of control cup competition will commence to-day, when St. George meets Central at Newtown Park and Petone and Hutt play at Petone. Central is a much improved team, and on Saturday week defeated Petone comfortably, although Petone certainly was weak on that day through several of ita player’s being away with Injuries. As the Wellington representatives will not be selected till after to-day’s games players will be all out to make the final selection. Hutt in its last engagement defeated St. George by 18 to 6. This young team under 11. T. Lilburne has improved out of sight and will take a lot of beating. Petone, on the other hand, has also increased in strength, the two Merwood brothers being a decided acquisition to the club. Pilcher, the hooker, is now back again, mid provided Petone can gets its share of the ball from the scrums some good back play should be witnessed.
