HOCKEY AND SOCCER
Basin Reserve To-day There should be a large attendance at the Basin Reserve, Wellington’s most central playground, this afternoon, when a double attraction of association football and women’s hockey will be offered. The Fijian women’s hockey team, who are to play the Wellington women representatives, should prove a strong drawing card.. Though the Fijian girls are not like their grandfathers, who toured New Zealand as a cricket team in the ISO4-V5 season, playing in bare feet, they play attractive hockey, despite the fact that they have not had much success so far on the Dominion tour. The Wellington girls, too, play hockey of a high standard, and the game this afternoon, if the weather is good, should be fast and exciting. The match will start at 3 p.m., and an attractive curtain-raiser will be provided at 1.30 p.m. by the match for the Baker Parata Cup between Horowhemia and the Wellington B women's teams.
On the same ground, the Wellington Football Association will play the final for the Chatham Cup between Hospital and Waterside, play commencing at 2.30 p.m. This should be a first-class exposition of the code. It is not often the public of Wellington have the opportunity of watching two such athletic attractions on the same ground.
