The Wellington public will have the first opportunity of seeing the visiting Fiji women’s hockey team play this afternoon at the Basin Reserve,. commencing at 3 o’clock, when they will meet a strong Wellington representative eleven. The Fiji team has considerably improved since last seen in the North Island, and is expected to provide a fast, bright exhibition of hockey with Wellington to-day. The main attraction will be preceded by the initial contest for the Baker Parata Memorial Cup between Wellington. B and Horowhenua, commencing at 1.30 p.m. This match should prove a thrilling contest in itself, as both teams are keen to be the first holders of the cup. Road Cycling. ; The final of the three contests to decide the Hope Gibbons Shield will be run this afternoon by the Poneke, Petone and Port Nicholson cycling clubs at Petone.
