Karori, Karori Park 6, 3 p.m. Fiji Women’s Hockey Team at Basin

The Wellington public will have the first opportunity of seeing the visiting Fiji women’s hockey team play this afternoon at the Basin Reserve,. commencing at 3 o’clock, when they will meet a strong Wellington representative eleven. The Fiji team has considerably improved since last seen in the North Island, and is expected to provide a fast, bright exhibition of hockey with Wellington to-day. The main attraction will be preceded by the initial contest for the Baker Parata Memorial Cup between Wellington. B and Horowhenua, commencing at 1.30 p.m. This match should prove a thrilling contest in itself, as both teams are keen to be the first holders of the cup. Road Cycling. ; The final of the three contests to decide the Hope Gibbons Shield will be run this afternoon by the Poneke, Petone and Port Nicholson cycling clubs at Petone. The race will commence at 2.30 p.m., and will start and finish at the Petone rowing sheds. Basketball.
