70th ANNIVERSARY
Wellington Y.M.C.A. To
Celebrate
The Y.M.C.A. was first established in Wellington in June, 1865, and to mark the seventieth anniversary the celebrations, which have been delayed from last year, will commence with a citizens’ banquet to be held on July 29, when the Governor-General, Viscount Galway, will be present and will address the gathering. Other speakers will inelude the Minister of Finance, Hon. W. Nash, the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. His-lop, and the Rt. Rev. 11. St. Barbe Holland, the new Bishop of Wellington. Members of the association will attend a special commemoration gathering on August 6, when a reception will be held by the president, Mr. R. H. Nimmo. On this occasion the speaker will be Dr. Laurence L. Doggett, the veteran president of the Y.M.C.A. College in Springfield, U.S.A. On August S the boys of the Y.M.C.A. will celebrate the seventieth anniversary at a father and son banquet, at which the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, will be the special speaker. By courtesy of the vicar and vestry of St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral, a special service of thanksgiving will _ be held on August 30, when Canon Percival James will be the preacher.
