BRITISH ADMIRALS
Several Promotions (British Official Wireless.) (Received July 23, 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, July 22. The Admiralty has announced that Admiral Sir Herbert Meade-Fetherston-haugh has been placed on the retired list at his own request to date from today and that Vice-Admiral Sir George Chetwode is in consequence promoted to admiral, Rear-Admiral Cunningham to vice-admiral, and Captain Elliott to rear-admiral. The last-mentioned is placed on the retired list, and, in consequence, Captain Watson is promoted to rear-admiral.
Sir R. H. Archibald Carter has been appointed Permanent Secretary of the Admiralty in succession to the late Sir Oswyn Murray.
