POLICY IN SAMOA
Goodwill Minister’s Statement URGENT QUESTION IN PARLIAMENT An urgent question was raised in the House of Representatives yesterday about the following, reported statement by the Hon. F. Langstone, leader or the goodwill mission to Samoa: “We don’t want Samoa; we don’t want your bananas; we don’t want the Maui Pomare.”
The Leader of the Opposition, Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, asked the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. M. J. Savagt, whether Mr. Langstone’s reported statement had the sanction of Cabinet.
Mr. Savage said: “The Government’s policy in regard to Samoa is correctly expressed by Mr. Langstone when he stated, as reported in the same Press message from which the statement mentioned in the right honourable member’s question is quoted, that ‘Our sole desire is to act as big brothers and to do everything possible in your (Samoan) interests.”’
