FORECAST FOR TO-DAY’S WEATHER.
Cloudy to overcast; rain in places; gradually improving. Following is the weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 24 hours ending 3 p.m. to-day There has been little change in pressure distribution over the New Zenlnnd aiea, but a shallow depression followed by a sharp rise in pressure is advancingF’arewell Spit and Knikoura, still strong and squally between Cook Strait and East Cape, but decreasing and otherwise moderate, veering temporarily in places to westerly; elsewhere moderate south-westerly to westerly backing again soon to southerlies and freshening somewhat. Seas rough to high between Kaikoura and East Cape, but moderating to-morrow; elsewhere in New Zealand waters rather rough to rough. Moderate and variable winds at first in the eastern Tasman Sea, but southerlies soon prevailing and freshening somewhat; seas moderate to rather rough. Weather cloudy to overcast between Banks Peninsula and East Cape, with rain in places, but gradually improving; elsewhere fair, but scattered showers developing later, more especially in coastal areas of the South Island. Temperatures cold. YESTERDAY’S WEATHER. Wellington.—Cold and cloudy, with occasional light showers. A few flakes of snow fell at Kelburn nt 8.30 a.m. A strong, squally southerly -wind moderated somewhat in the afternoon. Minimum temperature on Tuesday night was 40.7 deg.; maximum yesterday, 44.3 deg.; and temperature at 3 p.m. yesterday, Rainfall at “The Dominion” buildin.. for 24 hours ended midnight, .02in. Total for month. 3.43 in.; for year, 30.84 in. . Palmerston North. —Overcast, with occasional heavy rain; bitterly cold, gusty north-westerly wind. . ~ Masterton.-Livercast, with continual rain showers; cold southerly breeze. # Wanganui.—Cold and wet; driving southerly wind. Waipukurau.—Cold and threatening, with occasional showers. Auckland.—Fine, with prolonged intervals of sunshine, but a fresh south-west wind made conditions cold in the shade. The barometer was steady at 30m.
Christchurch.—Fairly clear but very cold, with a moderate south-west wind. The maximum temperature was 45.3 deg., after an overnight frost of 9.<deg. Lhe barometer was falling very slowly and last evening registered 30.13 m. Dunedin.—A continuation of calm, sunny weather, although temperatures were cold. The barometer was steady at around 30.20 in.
