MEMBER DEFEATED
Education Board Poll When the results of the Wellington Education Board elections were announced yesterday, it was found that one sitting member had lost his seat, but that the others who were contesting the election had in most cases been returned with large majorities. The results were:— Wellington Urban Area.—Mr. C. H. W. Nicholls, 156; Mr. A. C. Blake, 145; Mr. A. 11. Carman, 71; informal, 2. The two sitting members, Mr. Nicholls and Mr.. Blake, are re-elected. Hutt-Ilorowhenua Rural Area.—Mr. G. M. Henderson, 120 ;■ Mr. F. C. Meyer, 82; Mr. S. H. D. Peryman, 10; informal, 3. As there was only one vacancy, Mr. Henderson displaces the sitting member, Mr. Meyer. Marlborough Rural Area. —Ordinary vacancy; Mr. W. D. Pike, 123; Mr. C. E. Townshend, 79; informal, 6. Mr. Pike, the sitting member, re-elected. Extraordinary vacancy, caused by the resignation of Mr. W. E. Gascoigne on account of ill-health: Mr. H. Duckworth, 87; Mr. T. O. Pritchard, OS; Mr. R. E. Watson, 49; informal, 2. Mr Duckworth is therefore elected as the new member. Wairarapa Rural Area.—Mr. A. Donald, 263; Mr. J. F. Brophy, 89 informal, 5. There being only one vacancy, the sitting member, Mr. Donald, is reelected.
Mr. J. Stonehouse and Mr. W. H. Jackson, sitting members for the HuttPetone and Masterton urban areas respectively, were returned unopposed.
