MIDDLESEX BEATS KENT Loudon, July 21. Of principal interest in the county cricket championship round which was completed to-day were the defeat of Kent on the first innings by Middlesex and Surrey’s outright win over Lancashire. Yorkshire won on the first innings in Harold Larwood's benefit match at Nottingham. In another benefit match at Southampton the beneficiary, G. S. Boyes, distinguished himself by taking four Somerset wickets at a cost of three runs. Hampshire winning outright. Sussex were able to declare their first innings closed against Warwickshire without the loss of a wicket, both H. E. Hammond and J. Parks scoring centuries. The 100 mark was also passed by Fishlock (Surrey) and Crawley (Essex), while several other batsmen scored well. Prominent among the bowlers were Gover (Surrey), Jackson (Worcestershire), and E. Davies (Glamorgan). The results were:—

Lancashire v. Surrey, at the Oval.— Lancashire, 272 (Hopwood 60) and 110 (Gover seven for 39). Surrey, 269 (Fishlock 129) and 114 for two. Surrey won by eight wickets. Yorkshire v. Nottinghamshire (H. Larwood’s benefit), at Nottingham.— Yorkshire, 224 (Barber 77; Butler five for 33) and 197 for five, declared. Nottinghamshire, 149 (Bowes four for 37) and 151 for four. Yorkshire won on the first innings. Sussex v. Warwickshire, at Birmingham.—Sussex, 214 for none, declared (H. E. Hammond 103 not out, J. Parks 104 not out). Warwickshire, 115 for three. The match was drawn.

Middlesex v. Kent, at Maidstone.— Middlesex, 313 (Compton 87; Watt six for 92) and 287 for six, declared (Compton 96, Hart 95). Kent. 201 (Todd 77) and 115 for seven. Middlesex won on the first innings. Leicestershire v. Worcestershire at Worcester. —Leicestershire, 234 (Armstrong 99; Jackson seven for 69) and 122 for eight (Porks six for 64). Worcestershire 236 (Howorth 85). Worcestershire won on the first innings. Hampshire v. Somerset (G. S. Boyes’s benefit), at Southampton.— Somerset 39 (Herman five for 23, Boyes four for 3) and 148 (Creese four for 39). Hampshire. 165 (Hnzell five for 33) and 26 for none. Hampshire won bv 10 wickets. Essex v. Glamorgan, nt Pontypridd. Essex, 231 (Crawley 118; E. Davies six for 62) and 126 for seven, declared Glamorgan. 133 (Eastman four for 29) and 105 for four. Essex won on tho first innings. Navy v. Army.—Navy. 213 (Manners 86) and 148 for eight, declared. Army 180 (Boucher five for 32) and 91 foi five. The match was drawn. LEYLAND INJURED London, July 21. M. Leyland (Yorkshire) has a strained groin, and will not play in the second Test against India, which is to commence at Manchester on Saturday.

INDIANS’ MATCH DRAWN

London, July 21.

The cricket match between All India and Derbyshire was drawn. The scores were: — India 228 and 232 for seven, declared (Merchant 75). Derbyshire 160 and 169 for two (Townsend 77, Aiderman 61 not out).
