Sentence on Man Guilty of Manslaughter

Eric Newlands, who was convicted of manslaughter , yesterday, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment, but the sentence was suspended on Newlands entering into a good behaviour bond. Mr. Justice Street remarked that the crime' was undoubtedly committed in circumstances of strong provocation.
In the Sydney Criminal Court on Monday, Eric Newlands, aged 26, grazier, charged with having murdered William Duncombe, aged 35, at Boomi, was found guilty of manslaughter, the jury recommending him to mercy owing to provocation. A Sydney cable dated June 1 stated that it was alleged that, when he refused to fight a duel with rifles at Boomi, near Mudgee, William Duncombe, aged 32, a farm worker, was shot through the chest and killed instantly.
