National Dairy Fixture at

Palmerston

EVENT A MARKED SUCCESS Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, June 23. After a six-day session the National Dairy Show, conducted by the Manawatu and West Coast Agricultural and Pastoral Association, was brought to a close tonight, the exhibition halls closing at, b p.nt., and the side-shows at 10 p.m. The weather was fine though bleak, with a cold southerly breeze in the morning. The afternoon was beautifully line. The show was a marked success from start to finish, and the president, Mr. J. Batchelar, expressed bis satisfaction with the way the fixture resulted, and with tho co-opera-tion which had been forthcoming from all sides. The response of the public, he said, had been excellent. To-day being a holiday for the Kings Birthday, there were crowds at the show all day, especially this afternoon. The industrial halls were thronged throughout the day up till the time of closing, and the ring attractions found favour with a large numlftr of patrons. , - • The takings to-day were greatly in excess of any previous day, the total being £9ll/18/6, making the total over the six days of the show £2020, which is ■ the largest ©ate ever obtained on the show* grounds. The next highest was in 1928. when the figure was £1917. The total admissions for the show amounted to 52,1 ab. those by cash being 32,320, and those by ticket 19.536. . . The chopping competitions provided keen contests in every instance, and a high Standard of performance was reached. These events were followed in the- early afternoon by a thrilling exhibition of carobatics by the “Hell Drivers,” who provided the spectators with an hours breath-taking stunts. Following on this was a steer-riding competition, which attracted 16 entrants, and provided a wealth of exciting incidents.
