Men’s and women’s hockey teqms from all parts of the Wairarapa and surrounding districts competed in six-a-side tourneys held at Masterton this afternoon under the auspices of the Wairarapa Hockey Association. A high standard of play was set, and many keen and interesting games were witnessed.
The finals resulted as follow:— Senior men: Stags 2 beat Kiwi 0. Junior men: Huia (Wellington) 4 beat High School 1. Senior women: High School A 2 beat Excelsior A 1.
Junior women: High School 2 beat Old Girls 0.
FEILDING TOURNAMENT Feildiiig, June 23.
The Feildiiig Hockey Association held its annual tournament to-day in perfect weather, the grounds, though soft, being in good order. Sixty-six teams competed, making an arduous task for the officials. The finals were played in gathering darkness, with the following results:— Women’s Games. Women’s section winners: Section A, Hinekoa (Feilding); >B, Carnarvon Ramblers; C, United B (Marton); D, Tutaenui; E, Palmerston North Old Girls; F, Malcombe B. In the eliminating games' the first round winners were Carnarvon, Ramblers and Palmerston North- Old Girls. In the semi-finals Carnarvon defeated United B, and Tutaenui defeated Palmerston Old Girls. In the final Tutaenui defeated Carnarvon by a hit behind after time had been extended. In a women’s sealed handicap consolation contest Halcombe A defeated Colyton A, 1-0. Men’s Games. In the men’s competitions, the section winners were: Section A, Taihape Colts; B, Phoenix A (Palmerston North); C, Colyton C; D, Wanderers A (Feilding); E, Colyton A; F, Broadway A (Palmerston North) ; G, United (Dannevirke); H Huia B (Dannevirke); I, Tokorangi (WoodvilleU K. Huia A (Wellington). In the eliminating games, first round winners were Taihape Colts, Phoenix A and Colyton A. In the second round Wanderers defeated Colts, 1-0; Phoenix A defeated Tokorangi, 2-0; Colyton A .defeated United A, 3-1; Huia B (Dannevirke) defeated Colyton C, 2-0. In the semi-finals Phoenix A defeated Wanderers.'2-0; Huia B defeated Colyton. A, 1-0; Huia (Dannevirke) won the final, defeating Phoenix, 1-0. In the men’s sealed handicap consolation contest, Feilding Old Boys won the final from Phoenix, 1-0.
