RAY OF DAYLIGHT
Possibilities of Increased Empire Trade
SPEECH BY DR. PAGE
(British Official Wireless.)
Rugby, June 22.
Dr. Earle Page, Deputy Prime Minis ter of Australia, speaking at Birmingham, attributed Britain’s prosperity entirely to the improvement in Empire trade during the last four years, during which world trade had been almost stagnant. Almost the only ray of daylight he saw in the somewhat dark conditions of affairs was in the increased possibilities of Empire trade He advocated an Empire policy of rationalisation for secondary as well as primary industries, which they must regard not as antago nlstic but as complementary Such a plan could only come through persona' collaboration of the heads of individnaindustries themselves, to be followed by ratification of agreements reached and the clearing away of administrative and legislative obstacles to their fullest cooperation. Australia had already set the stage for this development
