PRESIDENT BEATS CAPTAIN IN TEAMS’ MATCH

The perfect W’eather which prevailed in Wellington yesterday saw city and suburban golf links crowded to their utmost capacity. Some 112 players took part in the match played annually between teams chosen by the president (A. E. Mabin) and the captain (D. R, Richmond), of the Miramar club. The match was very closely contested, and at the end of the day the president’s team had won by one game. The president’s team took the .fourballs in the morning by 14 games to 13, with one game squared, while the singles in the afternoon saw each side win 24 games, with two games squared. Championship to J. P. Hornabrook Dominion Special Service. Dannevirke, June 23. The Southern Hawke's Bay golf tournament concluded on the Dannevirke links to-day in perfec weather. The open championship was won by J. P. Hornabrook, Palmerston North, amateur champion of the Dominion, who proved too good for J. R. Hobbs (Napier) in the final. Following are the results: — The championship semi-finals: J, P. Hornabrook peat J. Goss (Wanganui), 1 up; J. R. Hobbs beat D. A. Reid (Waipukurau), 4 and 3. Final: Hornabrook beat Hobbs, 6 and 5.
