FORECAST FOR TO-DAY’S WEATHER.

Fair to cloudy; light scattered showers probable. Following is the weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 24 hours ending 4 p.m. to-day:— Though barometers have been fairly high over the Dominion to-day, a very slight depression has been crossing the northern part of the North Island and a moderate one is now advancing across the south Tasman Sea. Variable winds at first in the North Islandotherwise northerly to north-westerly prevailing, later backing to southerly in the southern portion of the South Island; force light to moderate generally, but freshening somewhat about and south of Cook Strqit. Seas rough about Foveaux Strait; elsewhere in New Zealand waters slight to moderate, but rising later south of Cape Egmont. Light variable winds in the northern portion of the eastern Tasman Sea, northerlies predominating: moderate to fresh westerly winds, backing temporarily to southerly, in the southern portion. Seas slight to moderate. Weather fair to cloudy for the most part, but some light scattered showers probable, more especially in western areas and the far north and south. YESTERDAY’S WEATHER. Wellington.—Fair, but for the most part cloudy, with a light north-westerly wind. Minimum temperature during Styiday night was 40.2 deg.; maximum yesterday, 53.2 deg., and temperature at 3 p.m. yesterday, 48.3 deg. . Palmerston North.—Fine but overcast during most of the day, following on a frost; bleak conditions with a north-westerly breeze. , Masterton.—Fine, but overcast after morning’s heavy frost. Practically no wind. WaJpuknrau.—A very heavy frost of lldeg. was followed by a cold, sunless day. _ Auckland.—Overcast and unsettled, with a light northerly breeze. Light rain fell for a short period toward midday and during late afternoon and evening. The barometer was steady al] day at 3015 in. Christchurch.—Sunny, clear and calm after a frost of 11.9 deg. The maximum temperature was 49.9 deg. The barometer was steady at 30.07 m. Dunedin.—After a frosty morning the sun shone brightly and the maximum temperature was 57deg. There was no wind and the pressure was fairly high with the barometer steady.
