Poneke to Meet Old Boys at . Athletic Park

Rugby attractions to-day include the Wellington-Taranaki game at Hawera, and the following other interprovincial matches: —Wairarapa v. Hawke.’s Bay, at Napier; Wanganui v. Manawatu, at Wanganui; Auckland v. Waikato, at Auckland; and Canterbury v. West Coast, at Greymouth. The Wellington team went to,Hawera yesterday, under the managership of Mr. E. Price, a vice-president of the YV.ellington Rugby Union. Leading Clubs to Meet. At Athletic Park to-day the special attraction will be the match between YYrellington College Old Boys and Poneke, the leading teams in the senior competition of the Wellington Rugby Union. No call has been made on the players of these teams for the representative match at Hawera. but Poneke will be weakened through the absence of J. L. Griffiths, who has influenza, and B S. Sadler, the Old Boys half-back, has an injured shoulder. Nevertheless the game should be an attractive one. Poneke beat Old Boys in the first-round meeting, and on their recent appearance at the park they gave a convincing display against Athletic. Old Boys will be keen to avenge the firstround defeat by Poneke. aud their typo of game should lend colour to the encounter. The match is timed to begin at 2.45 p.m., and the prices of admission to ground and stnnd will be the same ns w Saturdays. Seven-a-sido Matches. Entertaining preliminaries are to be provided by the playing of the finals of the seven-a-side tournament. These finals are to begin at 1.30 n.m. Junior, third fourth and fifth grade teams will contest the seven-a-side competitions. The junior and third grade teams are to play at Lyall Bay. the fourth grade teams at Kilbirnie. and the fifth grade teams at Wakefield Park, play in each competition to begin at 9.30 a.m. The finals in each grade are to be played at Athletic Park from 1.30 p.m. as curtain-raisers to the main match.
