Ripe strawberries of the Captain Cook variety were on sale in an Auckland fruit shop last week at 3/- a chip. They were of excellent flavour, but slightly below the average summer size, and were grown near Wliangarei According to a member of the wholesale t>rade, it constitutes a record for strawberries to ripen in the open air in mid-June.
