STOWAWAY ARRESTED
Boarded Monowai at Sydney
A stowaway on board the liner Monowai was arrested by the wharf police on the vessel’s arrival yesterday, afternoon at Wellington. He gave his name as Robert Thompson. He spout the night in custody at the Central Police Station, and will appear before a magistrate this morning. Thompson is believed to have boarded the ship at Sydney on Friday, shortly before she sailed, and to have evaded attention by mingling with the crowds on deck until the vessel was at sea. His presence on board was not discovered for some time, until it was much too late to consider setting him ashore. Being unable to pay his passage, he was handed over to the local authorities on the Monowai reaching Wellington.
